Breed Health

A well bred bulldog makes a wonderful pet, as they are good with children and other animals. They do not make a good jogging or hiking partners, however most people that have owned a healthy and well tempered bulldog will not own any other breed. A proper bulldogs' temperament is unique-a clown at times and sometimes very lazy but also stubborn and always seeks human attention.

"They say you don't own at Bulldog, a Bulldog owns YOU!"

Bulldog ImageNewborn pups require around the clock supervision for the first few weeks of life and for this reason bulldogs are expensive to purchase compared to many other breeds. Do not purchase a bulldog if you cannot give them a lot of attention and treat them as one of the family. Bulldogs thrive on human companionship and do not cope well when ignored or mistreated (likewise with all animals!!).
Although stubborn and not terribly easy to train, the breed is intelligent and truly loyal and devoted to an caring owner. To Train a bulldog takes consistency and firmness but beware that it is sensitive to the voice.

The overall look of a bulldog should be powerful and vigorous with a short, sturdy body. It's gait (walking movement) should look as if they are skimming the ground as if walking on their tip toes. One of the distinctive elements of the breed is their large head covered in loose skin, which is also around the neck and shoulders.

A Bulldog has a short/fine coat and sheds moderately, they require grooming at least once a week and no trimming is necessary. Daily care of tearstains and wrinkles is needed.Licking Bulldog

Exercise
20-40 minutes per day is an average requirement.  A Bulldog should never be exercised in the heat of the day, a relatively short walk at a steady but not terribly brisk pace is adequate.

There are many useful resources which give information on the breed, we've found many books to be a good resource and recommend the ones below which cover all aspects of the breed,
