12th October 2025

Best in Show: Shottle King Edward at Tedsbull (Ch.)
Reserve Best in Show: La Martin Gold Bulls Patriot
Best Opposite Sex: Ch. Ryadjobe Stir It Up
RBCC: Int Ch.Arcticbull Billie Jean King WW25
Best Puppy in Show: Jackarhys Unwritten
Thank you to everyone who entered and attended on the day, to my ring steward, Kelly, and at times Lieza, and to the club for honouring this Covid-diverted appointment. I’m not going to bleat on about the health of the breed, because show dogs have never been healthier. That said, the majority of breeders in our breed don’t care for the breed standard, and the raising of show standards, in my opinion, has in reality done little for the entire breed.

I encourage all breed enthusiasts to use social media and post as often as you can about our beautiful traditional Bulldogs, to educate people about how we differ from the latest fads and trends. We must continually represent on these platforms and become the majority, not the minority we are today. There are plenty of people looking for us; they just can’t find us. Breeder websites need to make a comeback. We have to fight a different war to our forefathers for this magnificent breed.

With that said, I was able to select a type I feel is vital for the future of our breed. We must do all we can to preserve our essential breed characteristics. It seems true wide jaws are no longer an easy-to-find feature, which is a sad reflection to accept. I found the males overall lacking in depth of quality across the classes, which is concerning when you consider stallion studs are key to a breed’s survival. That said, I was more than pleased with all my major winners, as justified below.

Class 1: Baby Puppy Dog (5,2abs)
1. Andlare Flummoxed, Red Pied baby stacked full of bone for a baby so young but the typical type you come to expect from this kennel. Showing correct immaturity and development for age with promising head, good turn of jaw, full nose rope and big nose. Lovely pear shaped body, and correct rise of topline creating the correct roll on the move. Moved extremely well with confidence. BBPIS

2. Suluma Obi Wan Kenobi, dark masked R&W with a balanced head and neat ears. Impressive front due to good bone framing, a well developed chest for age and big ribs, short compact body leading to a short mobile tail. Moved soundly.

3. Suluma Chewbacca

Class 2: Baby Puppy Bitch (7,2abs)
1. Andlare Look Again, litter sister to BBPD class and clear to see these babies are cut from the same cloth. Many similar attributes to her brother but a feminine version. Well boned, straight forelegs with compact paws and short nails. Shapely pear body, carrying no excessive weight yet providing the body roll on movement which was sound and strong.

2. You Make Del Caliborso Proud from Sexy Bully, Fawn Brindle much older and also larger than 1st making the obvious maturity difference more apparent.Unexaggerated feminine head, with dark pigment, clear dark eye. Well bodied in good coat and body condition. Short mobile tail and enough rear angulation. Moved well.

3. Asharlo Rumour Hast It

Class 3: Veteran Dog (1,0abs)
1. Andlare Scooter at Kikuchi JW, R/W in great condition for 7.5yrs old. Showed and moved with ease. Wide, flat skull, big nose and good nostrils and muzzle pigment (no fading) with neat rose ears, lovely dark, clear eyes. Enough rib and clean, short coat. Well boned forelegs to neat, tight tidy feet and super short nails.

Class 4: Minor Puppy Dog (4,0abs)
1. Jackarhys Unwritten, flashy dark R/W puppy showing correct maturity for age. Lovely clean outline and profile with no exaggeration but full of quality. Well pigmented, clean and balanced head with dark well set eye, nicely placed big nose with full nose roll. Well fitting and turned jaw giving a pleasing sour expression. Good shoulder placement, straight front and compact paws. Naturally curvy body shape in rib and topline. Good neck, balance topline and underline to well set tail. Enough rear angulation meaning he moved extremely well for age. Happy to reward his typical growth and development with BPIS.

2. Onabazz Papa John Ianbeldere, Compact well bodied white puppy who was much softer in body condition to 1. Classic brick skull with good eye and ear set.Well set nose and fit of jaw. Enough bone, but front assembly impeded correct front movement.

3. Waffleins Born To Dream

Class 5: Puppy Dog (3,0abs)
Unfortunately 1 dog withdrew due to lameness. This was disappointing for both exhibitor and judge as he would have been my class winner. Puppy limps are not uncommon in our breed and I highly recommend canine osteopathy for front end limps, as I’ve personally benefited in just one treatment curing sometimes lingering conditions.

1. Britannic Sugar Ray, R/W with good length and arch of neck leading to a shapely topline and low tail set. Shapley body, in lean condition, clean tuck up provided a clean outline. Large, wide square, clean skull, rounded cheeks with wide set dark, clear eyes and defined stop. Enough bone to tidy feet.

2. Bullmont’s Dane of Dragons, R/W, wide strong front with sufficient bone and neat enough feet. Well wrinkled skull, big nose and well fitting jaw. This boy was loose in front and it showed on the move but I’m sure he’ll tighten up with age.

Class 6: Junior Dog (4,1abs)
1. Mellowmood I’m a Lucky Man, this white puppy is well up to size but moves seamlessly, light on his feet with a well angulated rear. Good strong, straight forelegs into strong pastern and compact, neat feet. Flat skull, neat rose ears. Super dark, clear round eye, big nose and good nostrils with well pigmented muzzle. Good fit and turn of jaw. Enough neck into a good topline and great length mobile tail set low.Alittle soft in body condition but acceptable for age.I can see why he’s winning so well, and I have no doubts he will continue to do so.

2. Mystyle Keane, Dark Red male. Strong skull with a sour expression. Good nose and eye set with good fit of jaw. Ok bone in hard condition and would benefit from some extra pounds to balance him out but great curve to tuckup and topline with a sufficient tail setting.Move soundly.

3. Blenhiemstar Great Spirits

Class 7: Yearling Dog (2,0abs)
1. Kikuchi Yogi Bear, rich R/W coat of the correct close knit texture. Clean head, flat skull with round cheeks, big dark clear round eye and big nose with good nostrils. Enough bone to good pasterns and tidy feet with short nails. Good topline to low set tail. It took a  while to settle on the move but when he did move correctly and soundly.

2. Elarhill Donatello at Huntthorn, White headed Red boy, different type to 1 much more sour with a well worked head with correct rose ear. Enough bone to tidy feet. Shapely body with rounded rib with favourable topline and tailset. Moved ok, walking this width on the return.

Class 8: Graduate Dog (3,1abs)
1. Aimees Love Just Like That, lots to like to like about this rich, correctly coated dark masked R/W. Nice over all proportions and size. Sufficient bone with strong pasterns and neat feet. Classic skull of good length which isn’t overly wrinkled, rounded cheeks and significant turnup of jaw. Enough neck with well angulated shoulder giving the correct square front. Moved sound and well.

2. Britishpride Who Dares, White with Red. Great length of skull, clean flat forehead and favourable layback.Enough bone,ok topline to superb low set tail of good length. This was his first show and it showed as he was lacking the confidence on assessment and movement.

Class 9: Post Graduate Dog (4,2abs)
1. La Martin Gold Bulls Patriot, I hope it’s not impolite to call this R/W male a beautiful beast. If he were human, I’d describe him as a “man mountain,” yet it’s like watching the world’s strongest man perform ballet around the ring. He is so light on his feet and moves remarkably well for a male carrying such pure substance and masculinity. This is a boy who oozes strength and power, with well-laid shoulders perfectly framing his front. He is a large stallion, the kind much needed in the breed and would be seen of yesteryear. He has fabulous proportions, a large skull, clear dark eyes, a well-padded foreface and well-fitting jaw with good layback. His topline is excellent, with a correct rise over the loin leading to a low-set, mobile tail. If I’d had two DCCs to give, he would have had one but he had to settle for RDCC & RBIS.

2. Jarybull Valentino Rossi to Rattray, a Red pied who was unfortunate to come up against 1 as he’s a honest strong male in his own right. A short, clean coat, enough bone with strong pasterns and neat feet. A nice sized head, sufficiently worked, clear dark round eye, big nose and well fitting jaw. Move well and soundly.

Class 10: Limit Dog (11, 5abs)
1. Shottle King Edward at Tedsbull, When someone says, “You’re positively glowing” this boy embodied exactly that. He had an aura about him and did not put a foot, whisker or sniff wrong. A beautifully clean, standard-sized, flashy red brindle; solid, powerful and strong, yet with zero exaggeration. He has a nicely proportioned head with a flat skull and a big, correctly set nose. Well defined stop, even with a full nose rope, and cheeks well rounded. His eyes are large, dark and clear. He has a wide, true, well-fitting jaw, a broad front with correctly tacked-on shoulders, and maintains that width on the move. His forelegs are well boned, strong and straight, leading to firm pasterns and neat feet. He has a sufficient neck, a correct rise to the topline and a low-set tail. Moved with ease and purpose. Easy decision to award him DCC& BIS, gaining his Champion title.

2. Weebullz Parabellum JW, not too dissimilar to 1. Compact R/W with the correct coat texture. Plainer in head with good length of skull, big nose and clear clear eyes. Longer cast in topline to 1 but another one with a good shoulders, and bone resulting in a pleasing front. Well angulated rear with lowset hocks meaning he moved well and sound.

3. Andlare Razzmatazz

Class 11: Open Dog (10, 5abs)
1. Ch Ricatori Reimagined, This boy supercharged himself to the class win on movement, which was effortless underpinning his solid conformation. He had the tidiest jaw of the day, beautifully balanced in width, fit and turn. Compact body with a good length of neck. Good chest, well boned with strong pasterns and neat feet.Correct rise to topline with a well set tail of good length.Good rear angulation which is well muscled. It's clear to see why this young dog has powered his way to Champion status.

2. D’or Wood San Valero at Gratiabull (IMP FRA),  I judged this dog back in 2022 and awarded him the RCC and everything I said then still stands today. He’s a quality R/W that oozes masculinity and quality. Masses of bone, big ribs and wide chest, strong forelegs to strong pasterns and compact paws. Quality head piece with the correct stand-off expression.. This time he stood in different company and unfortunately a young gun pipped him to the class win, but his outstanding qualities still remain.

3. Testwood Total Eclipse

Class 12: Veteran Bitch (2,0abs)
Both owners and breeders should be very proud of these grand girls.

1. Ragmarte Middle Earth Blenhiemstar, a spritely 10.5yr R/W. Clean profile with no wrinkles or exaggeration. Amazingly clear dark eyes for her age and good width of foreface underpinned by a wide jaw. Sufficient bone, massive rib and super clean tuckup. She flew around the ring with walking her width and no lameness. I couldn’t deny that she easily earnt BVIS.

2. Asharlo Tooty Fruity, 11yr R/W female who most certainly did not look her age. Superbly presented in clean, cared for condition. Broad flat skull, clear dark eyes, big nose and split nose roll. Developed front with broad chest, sufficient bone.Well filled ribs, short coupled with good length of tail set low.She was a little stiff on her rear whilst walking to be expected at such a great age.

Class 13: Minor Puppy Bitch (2,0abs)
1. Wilsonpride One of My Kind, R/W of substance with strong straight forearms and pasterns. Well built front with deep ribs, rise of topline and well muscled thighs with good tail length and set.. Good length of skull and layback for age with tidy fit and turn of jaw. Showing the correct maturity with much more to come.

2. Wilsonpride It Is What It Is, litter sister to 1 but a slightly different type.Plain skull and wider eye set and good jaw. Massive chest that did all the jiggling on the move but meant she walked her width.Enough neck into curvy topline and low set tail. Sound movement.

Class 14: Puppy Bitch (5,1abs)
1. Ocobo Dignity Mystyle clean profile white with dark clear eye and foreface pigment. Good length of skull, feminine expression, eyes well set, wide nose with good nostrils, good fit and fit and turn of jaw. Sufficient straight bone to strong pasterns and compact feet with super short nails. Short bodied with correct rib for maturity, good length of neck flowing into a rise of topline to a low set tail. Best mover which gained her the class. BPB.

2. Mystyle the Dutchess at Unverdadero, Compact R/W with good lay of shoulder, nice front and broad chest walking her width and with typical roll. Short, shapely body with enough bone to neat feet. Another pretty expression  with dark pigment and good fit of jaw.

3. Julie von Teufelhohle at Valhallabull

Class 15: Junior Bitch (6,3abs)
1. Blenhiemstar I’m on Fire, compact and stocky white with great proportions. She moved well with good body shape and beefy thighs. Good length of skull and layback with clear dark eye, great width of foreface with good cushioning.Good shoulders to strong, straight forearms with strong pasterns and small, neat feet. Enough rise of topline and well angulated rear with low hocks.

2. The Crown of the Bulldog Taylor Swift at Treasurabull, Another white girl, with broad flat skull and dark pigment. Nice clean outline with suitable brisket.Well filled chest and walking her width on the return.

Class 16: Yearling Bitch (5,3 abs)
1. Ladymere the Beauty Bybel, compact, small framed white with a classic skull with a great layback and neat rose ears. Wide foreface with good fit and turn of jaw. Enough bone for size, short topline, good tail and rear angulation moving easily and freely. There’s really not much to dislike about this girl. I wished she was a shade or two bigger.

2. Treasurebull’s One Vision, this R/W girl was wild! I’m not sure if she lacked training or was just hyper excited but it made her challenging to assess. Dry head, with clear round eyes. Good reach of neck, longer cast in body but good tail and set.

Class 17: Graduate Bitch (7,3abs)
1. Britishpride Lilly White, there is so much to like about this powerful well built girl. I just wish she had a little more show pizzazz and demanded the attention she deserves. Lovely dark eye and foreface pigment which can also be challenging for a white.Tacked on shoulders given her broad front with good bone, strong pasterns and neat feet. Brick skull of good length with full nose roll but not impeding on her big black nose. Lovely fit and turn of jaw giving a true sour stand-off expression. Correct pear shape, with low set tail and good rear angulation.I think she can go all the way with an upgrade of ring confidence.

2. Terlingfair Wings of a Dove at Allarnice, honest R/W with classic skull and feminine expression due to dark eye and good fit of jaw. Well laid shoulders, enough brisket and straight bone. Sufficient neck, with big rib and compact body. Moved well enough to take this placement.

3.
Aimees Gold Digger

Class 18: Post Graduate Bitch (4,2abs)
1. Royaltudor Our Lady Marie Saintrosemil, white of larger frame but in clean and healthy condition. Square well wrinkled skull, dark eye with good fit and turn of jaw giving a sour expression. Ok for bone and enough rib.Good rear angulation winning the class with ease.

2. Blenhiemstars Raven at Chezzsbully, nice R/W with overall a good framework, build and many breed attributes. However unfortunately she was significantly out of condition and I suggest this is addressed with priority.

Class 19:Limit Bitch (6,1abs)
1. Onabazz Red Hand, I can’t begin to tell you how hard this girl pushed for the RBCC, like a BMW driver behind you in the fast lane! If I had more major awards she would have been first in the line. Her stand-off, sour (but still feminine) expression is to die for packed full of the darkest eye and foreface pigment. This is everything I love about the breed. She doesn't just have amazing head qualities with turn and fit of jaw, but it’s backed up by a well built but curvaceous body with a beautiful topline, tailset and tail. She won this class on strength of front which is just divine, tacked on shoulder, elbows standing away from the body, sufficient bone to tidy feet winning this class with ease.

2. Kenzduo American Pie for Tourmabull, this Red pied cruised to this placement on outstanding and clean movement. More upright in shoulder to 1, but super straight bone to strong pasterns and compact feet.Clean skull, well built body with enough rib and short but correct topline to well anglated and muscled rear.

3. Kalonice of Strikeapaws (IMP ITA)

Class 20: Open Bitch (12,2abs)
The strongest class of the day which I shortlisted to 5, these girls displayed an outstanding balance of build and femininity which can be so hard in our breed. All these girls were of good robusts sizes and I honestly could have given multiple 1st places.

1. Ch. Ryadjobe Stir It Up,a beautifully balanced R/W bitch is so easy on the eye. I would say she is pretty near flawless, every feature exactly as expected and should be. Strong square front with correctly tacked on shoulders, thick straight bone leading to strong pasterns to compact feet. A classic brick shaped flat skull with great length, near rose ears, dark clear correctly set eyes either side with full but clean nose roll and well fitting jaw. I really like her clean outline due to the depth of chest, a nice reach of neck, rise of topline and clean underbelly. Overall short and shapely body without any stuffiness. Finished with well muscled rear and low hocks which mean she also moved like a dream. A pleasure to award her 5th CC & BOS.

2. Int/Nor/Swe/Fin Ch.Arcticbull Billie Jean King WW25, Another compact R/W full to the brim of type.Classic skull with great length, well rounded cheeks provided width of head.Correct set and shaped rose ears, the darkest of eyes which were clear. Lovely dark pigment , correct short well knitted coat. Enough shoulder, good bone and tidy feet. Well sprung rib to short couplings and low tail set with suitable muscled thighs and good rear angulation resulting in sound, strong movement. LB pushed her hard for the RCC but she stood her ground.

3. Ragmarte Daiquiri at Pectus

Bulldog of the Year 2024: A Judge’s Perspective

1/12/2024

Having had the honour of qualifying and competing at Bulldog of the Year multiple times, judging the 2024 event was an absolute privilege. This prestigious competition is a highlight of the Bulldog world, bringing together the finest examples of our beloved breed for a day of top-tier competition and camaraderie.

The Excitement Begins Years in Advance

What many don’t realise is that the excitement of judging Bulldog of the Year starts long before stepping into the ring. Judges are invited two to three years in advance, a moment that is both thrilling and humbling. However, from that point on, it must remain a closely guarded secret until the club formally announces the judging panel just a few months before the event. Keeping that kind of news quiet is no easy task, but it’s all part of maintaining the integrity and anticipation surrounding this prestigious competition.

A Personal Connection to Bulldog of the Year

This year, I stepped into the ring not as an exhibitor but as a judge, a role I wholeheartedly embraced. Reflecting on my journey with this event, I was reminded of the many memorable moments LaRoyal has had over the years. Qualifying five dogs for Bulldog of the Year is an achievement I take immense pride in, and looking back, I still treasure the memories of my past successes in the ring.

★ Champion Balfour Action Man of LaRoyal JW (2000)

In 2011, my boy Martin (LaRoyal Luther King JW ShCM) took Reserve Best Male, a testament to his exceptional type and breed quality. Two years later, in 2013, his daughter Lacey (LaRoyal’s Best Kept Secret) went even further, claiming Best Opposite Sex – a remarkable achievement that underscored her undeniable ring presence and structure. In 2015, Lacey proved her worth again by taking Reserve Best Female, solidifying her place among the breed’s elite after rearing two litters.

Judging Bulldog of the Year 2024

Returning to the event this year as a judge rather than a competitor was a shift in perspective but no less rewarding. The standard of Bulldogs presented was excellent, with each exhibit bringing something special. I was looking for the hallmark characteristics that make this breed so distinctive – strength, balance, soundness, and the unmistakable Bulldog expression that speaks to the breed’s charm and confidence.

Beyond the competition itself, what makes Bulldog of the Year so special is the shared passion of everyone involved. From exhibitors and spectators to organisers and fellow judges, the atmosphere is a celebration—an opportunity to admire the breed at its best and acknowledge the dedication of breeders, handlers, and owners.

A Day to Remember

As I reflect on this year’s event, I feel immense gratitude to have been part of it in such a meaningful way. Judging Bulldog of the Year 2024 was an experience I will cherish, and I look forward to seeing how the next generation of Bulldogs continues to evolve.

For those who have never attended, I highly recommend it. Whether as an exhibitor, breeder, or enthusiast, Bulldog of the Year showcases everything that makes our breed unique.

Italian Judging appointment

Best Female (BIS) & Best Male (BOS)
Judging the Raduno Dell'Anno for the Circolo Italiano Bulldog was an honour on 19th October 2024. As always, the event was marked by Italian hospitality's signature warmth and friendliness, which never faltered despite the less-than-ideal weather conditions. Unfortunately, the chill in the air and persistent rainfall resulted in severe weather warnings, which may have impacted some exhibitors' ability to attend. Additionally, some of us also faced difficulties departing from Bologna Airport due to the unusual flooding in the region. I guess this all adds to the fun!

I'd like to thank President Lucia, the committee, and my dedicated scribe, who quickly picked up a new vocabulary of Bulldog terminology. A special mention goes to Riccardo and Emilio, whose hospitality and attention were greatly appreciated throughout the trip. The venue was spacious, with a large ring providing ample room for the exhibits to move freely. While the lighting was dim, I'm sure a typical Italian winter sunny day would have remedied this minor issue.

We all face similar challenges as breeders, particularly in maintaining breed type while appeasing health critics. Temperaments across the board were exceptional, save for a tiny minority, and I believe this is a crucial breed characteristic to preserve. The Bulldog's natural instinct to make us happy subtly and meaningfully defines them as a beloved companion breed.

Most of the exhibits were in good overall condition. However, a few dogs displayed excessively dry or coarse coats, and it was clear that some handlers had applied too much powder. I also noticed a handful of dirty mouths, with dead fur caught in the gums—an issue that can easily be rectified with a cotton bud. It's important to remember that this not only causes discomfort to the dog but is also something exhibitors can easily avoid.

One concerning trend I observed was the deterioration of tails, with too many being too short and tight. The good thing is that tails can be fixed quickly in just one breeding, but the downside is that they can also be quickly lost! I also noted a lack of true jaws, which is not just a concern here in Italy but something that seems to be a broader issue in the breed, especially if paired with good width.

Regarding grading, I penalised heavily on incorrect proportions and shapes. For me, a Bulldog should exude power but possess the potential for essential agility to, theoretically, bait a bull (or at least attempt to!). While many exhibits demonstrated good structure, some suffered from short necks and poor shoulder angulation, which, in turn, could impact the dog's ability to breathe efficiently and also result in a shallow chest. This decline in the breed's front was particularly evident. The breed requires a unique 'tacked on' shoulder and elbows that stand away from the body. Poor angulation of the shoulders gives the impression of a straight front, but it also robs the dog of essential neck length.

Despite these concerns, it was encouraging to see the improvement in eye health and clarity across the board—this development deserves recognition and commendation. Ultimately, I was strict with my grading, awarding "Excellent" to those dogs I believed worthy of a KC studbook number obtained with major titles or challenging class placements. This isn't intended to offend but to reflect my belief that a studbook number indicates a dog of outstanding merit, contributing to the betterment of the breed should they be bred. My judgments are simply one opinion at one show. They should not be seen as a definitive stance on any dog's potential, as every dog has the opportunity to grow, develop, and flourish over time.

Of particular note were the females, who I found to be of superior quality, especially in the more significant numbers. My Best in Show, Bucks & Son America, caught my eye instantly. She exemplified the perfect balance of femininity and power, boasting a large head, a correct neck length on a well-balanced frame, quality bone, well-rounded ribs, and a strong rear that gave her the desirable pear shape filled with natural curves. Her clean outline was beautiful and a testament to her strength and mobility. I would happily take her and my Reserve bitch CAC home with me.

Another observation was the occasional intermittent lameness (especially while watching BOY after a very long day), which I believe was due to the low temperatures, damp conditions, and drafts inside the venue. Exhibitors should keep their dogs' muscles warm in this climate to prevent stiffness and exercise them before exhibition.

I hope you appreciate my honest observations and find them helpful in working toward the improvement of our fabulous breed. Again, thank you for the opportunity to judge and study your dogs at this prestigious event.

A Delightful Day Judging at Bulldog Rescues 2024 Annual Picnic

10/9/2024

Reserve & Supreme Best in Show
It was a truly delightful day at the Bulldog Rescues and Rehoming 2024 Annual Picnic Fun Show. I was deeply honoured to be asked to judge such a significant event, especially considering my many years of attendance. What I initially thought might be a relatively easy day turned out to be a challenging and thoroughly enjoyable experience.

The show was packed with wonderful Bulldogs, and I had the pleasure of judging various classes. Here's a glimpse into each one:
  1. Golden Oldies (7 years plus) —This class warmed my heart. Seeing the older Bulldogs still full of grace and charm was a delight. The winner, a handsome male named Cooper, stole the show with his noble demeanour.
  2. Best Mover —Watching the Bulldogs strut their stuff in this class was truly impressive. Each one had its unique style, but they all moved with determination. The class was won by a striking male named Billy, a red pied with lovely balanced movement and the correct front breed width.
  3. Best Bulldog Family – This was a wholesome and heartwarming class featuring proud Bulldog families. It was won by two delightful puppy litter sisters, beautifully handled by a mother-and-daughter duo.
  4. Magnificent Male – With so many handsome Bulldogs in this category, choosing a winner was no easy task! Ultimately, a sturdy red-and-white male took the top spot with his solid and confident presence.
  5. Loveliest Lady – This class was full of elegance, and it was a joy to judge. The winner was a feminine, all-white girl who happened to be deaf, yet her grace and beauty shone through.
  6. Bulldog Obstacle Course —It was a real treat to watch the Bulldogs tackle the obstacle course with enthusiasm and energy. An agile red male, displaying both speed and spirit, took home the prize.
  7. The Linda Sutter Memorial Class —This special class held deep meaning for everyone involved, and it was an honour to judge it. Dusty, a veteran fawn-and-white female, won the class. She looked splendid in her beautiful green-and-gold embroidered winner's coat, and she proudly took home a cash prize.

To top it all off, I was able to award Supreme Best in Show to Cooper, the wonderful winner of the Golden Oldies class. Cooper embodied everything a Bulldog should be – noble, calm, and full of life.

As a judge, I made it a point to ensure that all the handlers felt comfortable. I know how nerve-wracking these events can be, so I aimed to keep the atmosphere light and fun. All the dogs were truly lovely, and it was a privilege to be part of such a meaningful event.

Throughout the day, I also had the chance to chat with some lovely existing and future Bulldog owners who are on the reservation list. They were so excited about their upcoming additions to the family, and it was heartwarming to see their enthusiasm for these wonderful dogs.

Lastly, a huge thank you to the incredible volunteers who worked tirelessly, not only at the picnic but throughout the year, to support neglected and needy Bulldogs. Your dedication ensures that these amazing dogs receive the care and love they deserve.

The entire event was a day filled with joy, pride, and, of course, beautiful Bulldogs. I’m already looking forward to next year’s show!

Having not been ringside for three years, it was nice to see the dogs with fresh eyes. Overall the quality was more consistent in the females than in the males, though I was pleased with my final winners. I thoroughly enjoyed the appointment and thank my stewards for ensuring the ring ran smoothly. I don't think I've ever experienced rain before at this venue, but there is always a first. The dogs, particularly the females (and their handlers), coped exceptionally well with the thundery rain.

There's no doubt that the show dogs are the healthiest they have ever been, and breeders should be applauded for such significant developments in the Breed's health. I feel that the Bulldog head, particularly the overall size and correct shape, is being lost, and even more so the grand width of the jaw. There are modern reproduction techniques nowadays, and I encourage more breeders to be freezing semen and use the frozen available to help claw back some of these essential breed assets, where possible.

VD/B (4,1)
1st PARKER'S ALBIONPRIDE A KING OF MAGIC JW, Masculine F/W, to who I have previously awarded the RCC. 7 years old, and great to see him age so well. Large, clean head with no excessive wrinkling. Had the widest jaw of the day, a feature we breeders must do more to preserve. Great body condition, well-toned with no apparent skin callus' that normally comes with age. Large framed with good bone and tidy feet given age. Good rear angulation moved soundly with a wide true front. Was unfortunate to come up against 3rd in OB to miss out on BV.
2nd COLLINS & GILLINGWATER LINFORDPRIDE JUNO ECLIPSE SH.CM, 8 years and 10 mth old white bitch. Feminine head that was well pigmented. Coat in good clean condition with a cobby and short body, filled with prominent ribs. Enough bone, moving soundly with width to her front.
3rd COLLINS & GILLINGWATER LINFORDPRIDE MAMA THE HUTT

MPD (4,2)
1st RODGERS BELUSHI ONE IN TEN, Deep red with well-pigmented eyes and muzzle with the correct rose ear. Won the class on length of skull and overall head proportions. Shapely body with wide front, good bone and compact feet. Short coupled with good topline. Moved soundly.
2nd BRAGGER PRIDEOFBULLY MAGIC MIKE, R/W also with great pigmentation. Strong bone, with a wide front giving a pleasing front appearance when stood. Shapely body, well-laid shoulders, good rear angulation and pleasing tail. A little loose in movement, but acceptable given age, moving soundly.

PD (3,0)
1st HANDLEY HADDAWAY HEY BULLDOG, what a handsome boy who took my eye immediately. 10mth old Br/W whose headpiece is as clean as a whistle. Beautiful head proportions, broad flat skull, correctly set thin rose-shaped ears. Eyes set wide apart that are dark, round and clear. Full nose roll not obstructing his nose or layback over a big, black nose with wide nostrils finished with good width of jaw, well-fitting and nicely covered flews. Correct arch of shoulders, to thick well, boned forelegs, strong pasterns and tight cat feet. Enough rib for maturity, giving the correct pear shape with a suitable rise in topline with a low tail set and sufficient tail. This boy moved with ease, covering the ground well, correctly walking his width. Awarding such big awards to a young dog is always a statement, but this boy is beautiful and seems to have a well-developed but not excessive growth pattern. I think (from my observation) he will mature beautifully, ensuring a big, bright future ahead of him. I was happy to award him the CC, BOB & BP. He wasn't placed in the groups, but watching the footage online, he showed well for such a big demand at such a young age, and I rarely see two brachy breeds shortlisted as this level with the French Bulldog taking G2. I will enjoy seeing how this boy powers through the rest of 2022.
2nd MAY SIR DONALD THE BOLD, 10mth old Short and cobby r/w. Good head qualities, broad skull, correct set of ears and low eye set. Big clear, dark eyes, full nose roll over a big black nose. Enough turn of jaw and width. Strong bone of forelegs with good cover of body condition and coat. Moved soundly.
3rd IRONMONGER MYSTYLE RED ENSIGN TAF

JD (1,0)
1st GILLETT MIREMAN NANO FOR ONABAZZ, Stood alone but more than deserving of this placement. Br/Pied 16mths. Short bodied with big ribs and correct topline and tuck-up. Strong, thick forelegs to compact feet giving a pleasing front. For me just lacked a little maturity; the foundations are there with a good length of skull, dark pigmented muzzle and correct rose ears. I would also start to tone up his body condition, so he's a little tighter in his coat. He moved well and soundly with good front width and rear movement.

YD (4,1)
1st WARE DISCOBULLS RENEGADE MASTER, 16mth R/W and what a powerhouse. This boy is all male and some. Masses of bone, a solid frame with well-laid shoulders, straight bone to strong pasterns and tight feet. Quality traditional headpiece with good length of skull, width throughout the skull and width of jaw. He would be a little more balanced if he was more filled behind the shoulders and a tad shorter in body, but he has the rise of topline and low set tail of good length, which was free moving. No doubt this is a quality boy carrying essential stud assets.
2nd BRIDDON MIRISTAR ROCYN REBEL, 16mth plainer headed than 1 but an appealing, clean upstanding male. Flat classic skull, no excessive wrinkling in the head, well-rounded cheeks with good width throughout the skull. Well-boned front, good neck length into well-laid shoulders and big ribs. Short in back with the correct topline and good rear angulation.
3rd FOWLER KADREYA GALANTIS

PGD (4,0) A challenging class to judge that varied in size and type.
1st GOODWIN BRITISHPRIDE ROCK AND ROLL, R/W won the class on overall balance and proportions. Had enough of everything to provide a pleasing outline and the best breed type in the class. Clear, dark eye, well-pigmented muzzle, good-sized nose with good fit and turn of jaw. Enough rib gives a pear-shaped body, with the rise of topline and good tail. Moved soundly.
2nd BROOKS MIGHTY KING ARTHUR, a large solid white. A tad too big and heavy for me, with excess skin. Strong bone filling his fame, he moved well for this size. Large head size, eye set well part and low what were dark and clear. Well padded muzzle with a true jaw that fitted well. For me, he needs to lose a few lbs and tone up in body condition.
3rd SMITH LADYMERE KINGSTON

LD (8,2)
1st REYNOLDS D'OR WOOD SAN VALERO AT GRATIABULL is a slightly understated dog at first glance, but the more you look, the more you like. A clean r/w masculine boy with suitable work in his head. Broad skull, neat rose ears, well-pigmented eyes and muzzle with well-filled cheeks. Big nose with a full nose rope, not impeding layback. Enough width of jaw with good fit and turn. Strong bone to strong pasterns and neat compact feet. Excellent overall proportions, with a wide front, good ribs and a narrow waist giving the correct pear-shaped body with the correct topline and sufficient tail. He was the best mover in the class and cruised to the RDCC in the challenge.
2nd CUNNINGHAM SAFFIENNA GYPSY KING, a similar type to 1, R/W with a classic clean head. Great length of skull and square throughout. Well-boned straight front, shapely body that could carry a little more weight to balance him out. Lost out to 1 on feet but moved ok.
3rd EVISON ANDLARE SCOOTER AT KIKUCHI JW

OD (9,3)
1st BRAGGER PRIDEOFBULLY NIGHT FURY, R/w Pied. Clean and honest boy. Well-boned, strong pasterns and compact feet with depth of brisket providing a pleasing front. Amazing pigment with dark wide-set eyes, enough work in the skull with neat rose ears. Shapely body, correct rise of topline finished with a good tail. One of the few to have the correct Bulldog roll whilst moving and won the class on movement. Considered for the RCC.
2nd GEORGE AVAWORD KING GEORGE, R/W with strong bone and neat feet and I believe litter mate to the BCC and carrying very similar properties. Compact size and short coupled with big ribs and short back. Ok tail. Good bone with sufficient front feet. Head a little heavy, but good width and turn of jaw.
3rd MARTIN CALIBRA PEPSI MAX

MPB (4,1)
1st CUNNINGHAM ANZABULLS ULTRA VIOLET NAF TAF, 8mth ticked white thick girl. Deep chested with excellent depth of brisket. Well-boned with compact feet. Flat, broad skull, good ear set and rosed ears. Nice dark pigment with a clear eye and big nose, creating the correct layback. Moved very well for age, a very plump girl with beefy thighs, but even for a puppy, she carried too much weight. A few lbs off will help her overall leg length/body proportions.
2nd RODGERS BELUSHI MOONLIGHT LOVER, Deep R/Br and white with a totally different frame to 1. This girl is yet to blossom and mature, but for MPB, rightly so. Clean skull with good length and nice fit and turn of jaw. Good width of chest with straight bone. She was short-bodied with rounded rib, good rear angulation, and moved well once she settled with her gait.
3rd GOODWIN BRITISHPRIDE AVEDA NAF

1st ALLEN HADDAWAY DIZZY MISS LIZZY AT RATTRAY, stood alone but would stand out in a class. An elegant and tidy 10mth Fawn Br/W bitch. Feminine head with no excessive wrinkling, classic skull with pleasing eye set and shape. Neat rosed ears, well-rounded cheeks with good fit and turn of jaw. Broad chested with enough brisket for age and enough bone for sex. Well-rounded ribs leading to a short and shapely body. BPB, I later found out she was litter mate to the DCC, and the consistent type was evident.

1st BRIDDON MIRISTAR ROCES ROCKABYE, stood alone but another that would stand out in a class. A very pretty, feminine 14mth bitch. Good neck into well-laid shoulder, big ribs and deep brisket. Short bodied, correct topline finished with appropriate tail, muscular thighs without being beefy and low hocks. YB (9,3)
1st BANNISTER ANDLARE IF'S AND BUT'S, I've admired this girl from a distance and didn't disappoint on closer examination. Quality white 14mth old in excellent condition. Beautiful front, due to correct lay of shoulder, well-boned forelegs, strong pasterns and neat feet. Good length of head, dark pigment, well-set eyes with good width to muzzle and good fit and turn of jaw. Well-balanced body with nice deep brisket, a rise of topline and low tail set with well-developed thighs. She moved soundly and pushed for higher awards, but she just needs to 'pop' with maturity. The best of this girl is yet to come.
2nd HANDLEY HADDAWAY HOLLY BERRY, another pretty fawn Br/W with a well-developed broad flat skull. Well-filled head, neat nose roll and filled cheek with the correct layback. Lovely intense pigment, with a big black nose and width to muzzle. Strong bone to neat feet. Walked her width and soundly. Short bodied with big rib and enough tail. Lost out to 1 on the topline.
3rd PARKER ANDLARE MISS FIRE AT ALBIONPRIDE

PGB (4,1)1
1st POULTON AVAWORD TEMPTRESS AT BALLESMAR, 15mth old R/W compact female with super pigment. Cobby and curvy due to big ribs, correct pear-shaped body due to a narrow waist. Well-worked broad skull with wide-set eyes and well-filled muzzle. Correct layback due to turn of jaw pushed backed nose and length of forehead. Strong bone with ok feet, moved well. She was considered for the RCC, and I later found out she is a littermate to the BCC.
2nd PLANSON WINTER WILLOW AT BRITISHSTYLE, Clean and classic R/W with big ribs. Her markings accentuate her broad flat skull and small neat rosed ears. Wide, low set eyes, good width of muzzle well padded with filled cheeks. Strong, straight bone to slightly flat feet. Good overall body shape and outline.
3rd STEELE  CHAYO CARVALHO AT CHELSEAPRIDE

LB (6,1)
1st STUTTER LYNMANS PARTY LIKE PATSY AT LINMIST, Large framed R/W Pied. Thick bone with strong pasterns and compact feet. Skull with length throughout with the correct layback. Dark eye and good neck with a shapely body due to big ribs and narrow waist. Moved incredibly well, holding her topline with a well-muscled rear. Just a shade too big all over for my preference.
2nd BANNISTER ANDLARE SKALLY WAGG, 14mth old dark red Br/W. Feminine expression due to clean head with correct rose ear, dark well-set eyes and big well placed nose with enough jaw. Enough bone to tidy feet. Rounded rib and short in the back. Moved well and sound.
3rd ROSE ROSEBULL I AM DELORES

OB (7,1)
1st GEORGE AMANDA AVAWORD DOTTIE, Strong compact R/W that sits on the right side of balancing strength, sourness and feminity. Well worked skull, with a complete nose rope, big nose and correct layback. Wide skull with width throughout with a wide fit and turn of jaw. Enough neck to strong, well-laid shoulders with forelegs of plenty of bone and strong pasterns and neat feet. Big, well-rounded ribs and a narrow rear gives the correct pear-shaped body. Good topline, well-muscled and angulated rear with low hocks. Walked her width with ease and covered the ground well. She's easy on the eye from all angles and provided a pleasing outline. I was happy to award her the BCC, her 2nd.
2nd VAUGHAN CH ODINSCHILD VIOLET PRINCESS JW SH.CM, nearly 5yr r/w whose drier in type to 1. Classic skull with great length, clean with no excess skin or wrinkles giving a feminine expression. Clear dark, round eye, set well between a big, dark nose. Natural width of muzzle due to good width and turn of jaw. Well boned to neat feet, well-filled forechest and depth of brisket. Good neck in well-laid shoulders and the correct topline. Moved soundly and was pleased to award her the RBCC in good company.

Firstly I would like to thank my steward, Frenchie enthusiast Linda Quin. I was thankful for the entry with very few absentees. The dogs adapted well to the heat, with little showring shade and a cloudless sky. I made minimal amendments to the amount of movement required in the ring, and all dogs seemed to cope well. A noticeable observation was poor rear end movement, many moving too close, although no apparent lameness. Some classes were also a little tough, comparing masculine boys with feminine girls, but that’s the joys of general open shows.

Puppy (2,0)
1. Humphries’ Theapaul I Believe in Magic for Crackatari, what a cracking little brindle female who had just turned 6 months. I have no doubt that she will hold her own in the strongest of competition. Classic skull for maturity with appealing expression. Clear dark, round eye. Ears of good size and set. Good bone for body proportions. Compact feet with short toes and nails. Enough rise of topline and moved well, showing no looseness given her age. Showed extremely well, happy to award her BP and heard she also won PG2.

2. Ross’ Grandtree Lady Coco Bella, 12mth old hooded Br Pied. Short bodied with pleasing topline with enough tail. Developed forechest with rounded ribs providing pleasing underline. Clean head, good eye shape and set with dark pigment. Well placed ears of size and shape. I would have preferred a little more muscle tone/harder body condition for age.

Junior (2,0)
1. Hartfield’s Warson Huggy Bear, 12mth Brindle male. Masculine boy up to size with good overall proportions. Clean coat and condition. Strong topline held on the move, walking his width on the return. Well boned with neat feet. Pleasing head, dark eye, good width and upturn of jaw. I would have preferred if it was a tad shorter, but this did not detract from his overall proportions hence awarding him RBOB.

2. Harris-Griffiths’ Kralfbecs Coco Noir, Feminine 16mth well-marked brindle. Compacted size and shape, short backed, finished by a neat, sufficient tail. Nice overall balanced proportions, deep chest, and correct length of foreleg with sufficient lay of shoulder provided a correct front assembly. Well-muscled and angulated rear quarters.

Graduate (8,1)
1. Jennings & Duff’s Cossy’s Dua Lipa, Feminine 18mth fawn bitch with a dark mask with a clean head, no excessive wrinkling, typically more apparent with fawns. Another solid and compact female with straight bone to neat feet. Suitable depth of rib and matching topline, providing a pleasing outline. Clear dark eyes set correctly, sufficient width to muzzle and suitable nose size. Once this girl settled on the move, she walked soundly and to her width.

2. Humphries’ Crackatari Shockwave JW, 20mth Handsome Br Pied. Leaner, lighter and longer in the back than 1, but excellent in movement. Body condition accentuated his tuck up, another with a pleasing tail. Good bone for this size and sex, providing a well-constructed front. Appealing expression with flat skull between the ears which were of correct shape and set.

3. Cossy’s Quality Street

Open (7,2)
1. Smith & Pratt’s Catrelma Petit Bataeu Avec Khanin, 4yr old hooded quality coated Br Pied male. Clean outline with a nice balance between body condition and proportions. Another that had sound strong rear movement due to correct angulation. Nice length of neck, deep chested with matching tuck up and topline. Ears large that were correctly held, well pigmented dark eyes set between a wide foreface. Good bone to neat feet, holding his width on the move. Ticked all the boxes for BOB.

2. Morgan & Ling’s Agramers Balam Quitze at Tytorro, Well marked 2 year old Br male. Shorter in back then 1, but for me carrying a little too much weight making him appear stuffy. Clean head, broad forehead that was flat between well set and sized ears. Dark pigment and muzzle and dark clear, well-shaped eyes. Good rear movement with well-muscled and angulated quarters.

BOB Corursus Life Can Be So Nice JW ShCM, RBOB Lorrosa Love at First Sight with Brumist & BPIB Muggshotts Glitterati
Thanks to the committee for asking me to judge and also to my ring steward Sue.

It’s been 18mths since I last judged this breed, size was a little variable. Obviously having mixed classes always throws its challenges, but after assessing the dogs that were present males were slightly oversized and the females just a tad under. The larger dogs seemed to be longer cast in back and loosing toplines. Many of the noses had tight but not pinched nostrils, though breathing seemed unaffected. Tails were present but I would have expected them to be 1 or 2 vertebrate longer. With that said overall movement was sound, even on the wet uneven sand, eyes were clear, dark with very little wetness and heads pretty clean all-round with no unnecessary wrinkling.

Puppy (4,1)
1. Muggshotts Glitterati, 6mth double hooded Brindle pied bitch. Pleasing proportions for age, enough bone for sex with ok pasterns to small feet. Very clean outline with good length of neck flowing to correctly roached topline. Well-muscled thighs moving soundly and with ease walking her width. Enough chest for age and of correct substance for frame. Clean head of good pigment with ok nose and enough width of muzzle, well rounded cheeks, clear eyes. Correct ears of set and shape. Happy to award her BP & PG3.

2. Monascreebe Biding My Time, masculine brindle male. Superior head qualities, skull of good size, flat between the ears and well-rounded cheeks. Good turn, fit and width of jaw. Clear dark eye correct ear set giving appealing expression. Moved sound with enough width at rear.

3. Corursus Under the Ivy

Junior (4,2)
1. Lorrosa Love at First Sight with Brumist, smaller framed brindle bitch, good proportions with correct topline and tuckup. Super dark eye of correct set and shape, enough width to muzzle and ok nose. Ears of correct size and shape for skull. Enough bone for sex and walked her width. Moved with ease covering the ground well, slightly close at rear but of correct angulation. Pushed hard for BOB just needed to be a shade bigger all-round. Glad to award her RBOB.

2. Rosco’s I’m No Angel for Monascreebe, handsome brindle male up to size for age. In good condition and coat. Clean skull with no unnecessary wrinkling, correct ear set, size and shape. Clear dark eye and good width to muzzle, ok nose. Enough bone for sex. Moved well and soundly.

Thank you for the entry on a working day for many, I was happy with the overall quality of my exhibits particularly Limit and Open classes. Also thanks to my stewards David and Mary and to the Darlington committee for my first time CC appointment.

I looked back at my foreword from my last breed appointment and I have to say the same applies even as this level.  I found the quality stronger in the bitch classes then the dogs, the standard of grooming was high but the amount of chalk used was excessive, my trousers demonstrated that. Jaws need to be looked at on many levels not just with regards to the lack of width but with regards to hygiene. Too many dogs had bad breath, sore or aggravated gums due to a build-up of debris including large tuffs of fur! Eyes on the whole were large and clear, but I observed a few lashes that could be easily plucked and some lacking a well-fitting eye conformation.  The most noticeable observation was the backwards step we seem to have taken with the importance of tails, I would expect to still see this as a necessity in any of the younger dogs being shown and this was taken into consideration with respect to my placings.

LD (5 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: PARKER Mr S D & Mrs C E Albionpride A Kind Of Magic JW, F/W with really clean outlines and close knitted coat. Well boned forearms to neat feet that do turn out slightly, but this is noted as acceptable in the breed standard. Great length of neck carrying a large clean skull. Clear dark well fitted eyes, broken wrinkle over good nose. Small neat ears sat well in the skull. One of a few to have a grand width of jaw that was also well fitted and turned. Good rib, slightly longer over loin finished with sufficient tail. Rare to see natural width on the move with no paddling that was sound and true. Pushed hard for the CC but was awarded a more then deserved RCC.
2nd: MAXWELL, Mr G S & Mrs M L & PERKS Mrs A T Britishluxe The Houdini, white male I’ve judged this male before and liked him back in 2014! He’s certainly matured well keeping many of the attributes I admire. Quality head piece, brick shaped skull, with correct layback. Good width of jaw that’s also well fitted. Sufficient rib, good topline finished with a great tail. A little out of condition on his face and missing complete eye pigment but did more than enough for this award.
3rd: BANNISTER Mr A R & Mrs C L Andlare Everhard JW

OD (3 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: ELLISON Miss V Ellsberry Heart And Soul At Maghullpaws, as soon as I placed my hand on his f/w dog I instantly liked his condition, he’s carrying zero excess fat but not lacking any body shape he has all the right curves in the right places, round rib and raise of topline, maintained on the move. He is well-covered but his condition is hard but not over muscled - in a word perfect! He is all male, powerful and compact. Large classic broad flat skull, small rosed ears, no excess wrinkle on a big black nose. Dark clear eyes, great width, turn and fit of jaw with correct straight dentition. Strong bone to neat feet, well developed chest, good depth of brisket. Another that walked his width well with a well-muscled and angulated rear. All this was enough to earn him the CC (I was notified his 3rd) and BOB.
2nd: MANDERS Mr & Mrs P Erimusbulls Mannion JW, r/w male that’s on a great path to success. Was unfortunate to meet 1 as was giving too much away in maturity in particularly muscle mass and overall body development. Broad flat skull, ears set well in skull. Big ribs, strong bone to need feet. Good topline to neat tail. Move sound and correctly. To me just a matter of time for bigger wins then today.

Strong jaw, wide and well fitting. Compact body shape, big ribs, short coupling to well-muscled rear. Moved well when settled.
2nd: GEORGE Miss A Avaword Mollie, r/w with great clarity and cleanliness of head. Flat skull, big open well set eyes, big nose nestled inbetween and with good turn of jaw. Appealing expression, and overall a well put together girl but very stout. Strong bone and shapely body however for me a shade small but moved well and soundly.
3rd: WILLIAMS Mr & Mrs Willsmere Matilda

1st: BANNISTER Mr A R & Mrs C L Andlare This Is Kaboodle, I’ve admired this girl from ringside and she just keeps getting better with maturity. Feminine beautiful clear white headed bitch. Flat broad skull, well filled cheeks dark well set eyes and nicely sized nose with no heavy wrinkling. Good jaw in width, fit and turn. Suitable length of neck, to a shapely body. Strong forearms to tidy neat feet.  Correct rise over loins to low set and sufficient tail. Moved with sound and with ease. Happy to award her RCC within strong competition.
2nd: HANLEY, Miss S E & HANLEY Mr S P Ragmarte Middle Earth, another feminine r/w girl shared many attributes to 1. Nice overall size, classic clean skull, enough bone for sex. Big ribs, good topline to low set tail. Moved well my preference is for her to be a little more toned.
3rd: LEE Mrs E & Mr S Milasha Gigi

PGB (13 Entries) Abs: 4
1st: READ Mrs L Andlare Moonshine not much not to like about this R/w girl. Typical head with well-fitting dark eyes, well rounded cheeks, large enough nose and true jaw. Sufficient bone to small tidy feet. Short bodied with big ribs, correct raise of topline finish with straight tail. Moved soundly.
2nd: PEEBLES, Mr S & KIRKWOOD Mrs P Weebullz Shy Tot, heavier type to 1 but of nice size and shape. Good length of skull, clear dark eyes and sufficient sized nose, true jaw. Strong front with well boned forearms. Good rib, correct topline finished with sufficient tail. Moved well.
3rd: SIMPSON Mrs E Jackarhys Goodness Gracious

LB (10 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: MARTIN Mr & Mrs R & LA Calibra Clementine JW, took my eye when I first saw her. She balances beauty, power and sourness not an easy feat for a female bulldog. Compact r/w with the most beautiful head piece. Well proportioned, good head size with large dark appealing clear eyes, well set big nose, good nostrils. She does haven’t excess cushioning meaning all her foreface is her jaw! The widest of jaws with super turn up and perfect fit of lip and flews - this girl is gracefully sour. Strong bone to neat feet, well laid shoulders. Short backed but not stuffy, good length of neck with correct curves to topline and tailset. Moved well and sound, I had no qualms on awarding her the CC, which I was unaware was also her 3rd and crowning & BOS.
2nd: AUSTIN Mrs K & Mr L Lekerry Le Hilda, very honest female that I found extremely appealing. Quality head piece with brick skull and big nose, great fitting jaw. Sufficient bone and shapely body, my preference would be for more depth of brisket and chest but she excelled in movement, well angulated rear, walking her width on the return. She pushed the RCC winner hard.
3rd: MORRIS Mrs M Cutie Mcpretty At Ragmarte

OB (8 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: SAXON Mr & Mrs A T & S L Ch Bagibeli Queen Of Hearts, I’ve admired this girl from ringside and she didn’t disappoint. R/W pied more than worthy of her title. Lovely length of skull, neat thin ears, clear dark eyes, big black nose, great nostrils and muzzle with good fit and turn of jaw. Good length of neck, strong bone to tidy feet. Suitable length of body and correct topline tailset. My preference would be for her to carry a little more weight like I had seen her in the past, but she’s a quality girl and deserved this tough class.
2nd: HANLEY, Miss S E & HANLEY Mr S P Ch Sgribble Pip As Blenhiemstar , another girl I have judged February last year and the much still applies! Thankfully she hadn’t gone over in size which was previously my concern but she’s still compact and sturdy! Skull a little more worked then most but not coarse. Neat ears, well rounded cheeks and wide foreface, well cushioned but with the most turned up jaw of the day underneath them flews. Strong front well boned, good brisket and rounded ribs. Short bodied and smooth coated with good tail set, thighs a little beefy (I said this before). Moved well walking her width.

East of England Ladies Kennel Society Open Show - 30th July 2017

French Bulldogs

Puppy (7,3abs)
1. Kuredeux Don Dada, 7mth old brindle pied. Lovely clean silhouette displaying good length of neck and topline. Well put together which was shown on the move, sound with beautiful front movement to his natural square width. Good bone to compact feet and the shortest of nails. Giving away his maturity in his head but I’m sure all will come, dark round clear eyes, well sized nose and good jaw.  Correct set and shaped ears which were used well. He was shown superbly and didn’t seem phased at all.  Pleased to award him BP.
2. Feniton Fredrick at Raglenary, Br male. Only young but extremely naughty/lively! Appealing expression due to correct ears, dark eye and good width of muzzle. Coat in good condition which was well marked and finished with jet black nails. Moved sound but have no doubt showmanship will improved with age, but saw enough of him to place him 2nd.
3. Winuwuk Smart Lady of Casemates

Junior (2,1abs)
1. Khanin Sovereign. Feminine lightweight fawn girl placed Res in Junior. Classic head that’s well worked but not heavy. Large dark appealing eyes, well rounded cheeks and strong jaw. I liked her overall size and body shape including topline and tuckup, deep brisket and good outline. Unfortunately she as favouring her rear on the move which cost her places in the Junior class.

Graduate (2,1abs)
1. Barilballe Miracle of Life, beautiful brindle bitch with the most amazing quality coat, even and well-marked that was in great condition and glossy. I particularly liked her balance, super muscle tone giving great definition to her shape. Sufficient bone with straight forearms and dark nails, classic head flat between the ears which are well shaped and set. Dark clear eye with well-rounded cheeks that were used well, finished by a good fitting jaw. Good proportions all round with sound movement, won BOB on her front movement which was to her natural width. Pleased to hear she went Group 4.

Post graduate (5,3abs)
1. Katakia One and Only JW, pied bitch with well-marked brindle. Compact with well sprung ribs and good topline. Enough bone throughout for sex, expressive head, good clear eye and rounded cheeks, would have liked a tad more width to muzzle to finish her head. Sound movement and happy to award her RBOB.

2. Jafrak Chief Suspect, larger brindle male. Clean outline but longer cast which sacrificed his topline. Masculine skull, dark clear eye, good width to jaw and correct ears. Strong bone, correct shoulders and deep chested. Showed ok but not handled to his advantage.  Moved well and sound.

Open (4,1abs)
1. Jafrak Chief Suspect - See 2nd Post Graduate
2. Come and Look at Me Katakia, another lovely brindle pied bitch from this kennel. Well-proportioned and of a compact size and shape. Classic head, large dark eye and good ears. Well-rounded rib, suitable topline with a well angulated rear. Unfortunately dropping on her front shoulder on the move which cost her the class.
3. Kahnin Sovereign

Mini Schnauzer

Junior (3, 0abs)
1. Starbound to Sleep to Dream, 10mth salt & pepper male, lots to like about this boy. Very smart and tidy due to quality of groom and condition of furnishings with correct wiry coat. Pleasing outline, sufficient head size for age, clean neck of good length. Dark eye and correctly fitting jaw. Overall good proportions with correct topline when static and moving, tailset high and held well.  I particularly liked his parallel movement and ultimately won him BOB and BP.
2. Silversocks Say Yes to Gilsway, well-presented black & silver bitch. Smaller and finer to winner but of great type. Typical expression with correct ears. Well bodied with sufficient topline and correctly set tail. Moved sound and strong.
3. Buffingham Lady Pippa

Post graduate (1,0abs)
1. Brumist Twice at Hot at Marnimica, well presented Salt & Pepper bitch of good proportions for size. Good use, set and shape of ear, dark eyes plus good length of skull with correct square jaw. A little beefy across the croup and would have preferred a high tail set. Moved well and soundly.

Open (3, 1abs)
1. Marnimica Sorcerer, 7 yr old salt & pepper larger male and he pushed the Junior class winner hard! The widest of heads today but still maintaining good proportions all round. Correct neat V shaped ears, Good jaw for age, small dark eyes, good length of neck following to suitable topline.  Moved sound and correctly, happy to award him RBOB.
2. Buffingham Lady Pippa, 8mth old black bitch. A real baby that has plenty of maturing and developing ahead. Well-handled for age and showing great temperament, her correct set and shaped tail didn’t stop wagging.
